What's Happening
What is happening in Kirby Misperton?
Around one kilometre from the village is the existing KM8 well. Originally drilled for the gas industry, the well was never used for its intended purpose and has already been successfully converted into a geothermal demonstration well.
We now want to take the next step.
The proposal is to use the well as the heat source for a local heat network, carrying naturally occurring heat from deep underground to an Energy Centre and then onwards to buildings in and around Kirby Misperton.
The first phase is planned to include a number of local buildings and selected residential properties, with the potential for more homes and buildings to connect in the future.
How will it work?
Heat from beneath our feet
Water circulating through the closed-loop KM8 geothermal well collects heat from deep underground. That heat is transferred through the network and made available to connected buildings.
